Corey Johnston is Green Plan’s Senior Environmental Specialist with a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of New Brunswick. Corey has worked in the Environmental field for 11 years including four years consulting for Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (now GHD) and seven years working for Canadian National Railway.

Corey’s experience consulting consists of a wide array of projects including Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I, II, and III), remediation programs, Surface Water Assessments, Wastewater Management, Air Monitoring, and Emergency Spill Response.

While working at Canadian National Railway, Corey had a critical role of emergency response involving derailments and spills. His responsibilities in these emergency response included remediation, maintaining interdepartmental relationships, following Incident Command Structure (ICS), cost optimization and reduction, waste management, liaising with regulators, stakeholder engagement, health and safety, and risk management all while partnering with railway operations to limit service disruptions. As CN’s Environment Officer for Alberta, his responsibilities also included environmental compliance pertaining to petroleum storage tanks in accordance with the Storage Tanks for Petroleum and Allied Petroleum Products, conducting Environmental Compliance Audits, Wastewater Management including managing an industrial wastewater treatment plant, Waste Management, Employee Training Program development and implementation, Contaminated Site Management, and Emergency Response Preparedness including managing Spill Drills and maintaining a network of resources and equipment. .

Corey’s diverse experience has made him a well-rounded problem-solving team member. He is a dedicated team player leading the Environmental Assessments and Surface Water and Stormwater Management services at Green Plan.
