What is a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist?
QAES experts are qualified environmental specialists selected by regulators to conduct specific functions based on years of education, training, certification, and associations with numerous organizations. QAES experts are highly qualified and require a post-secondary degree in biological sciences, a technical diploma, and/or educational equivalencies. Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialists have the expertise and detailed knowledge of the aquatic environment, including fish and fish habitat, management, and assessment.
QAES professionals have a great deal of knowledge in fisheries, aquatic environment assessment methods, and expertise in the mitigation measures required to maintain the aquatic environment’s effective capacity, such as fish habitats that may be harmed by activities to the water bodies and shores of Alberta.
In Alberta, a number of authorities have permitted specific regulatory tasks and governmental functions to be authorized to QAES based on their training and educational background.
